2-vehicle crash in South Carolina leaves 1 dead, 2 injured

A South Carolina man was killed after the vehicle he was driving was struck by a pizza delivery car on Oct. 4. The report stated that the 18-year-old was traveling home with a friend from a Clemson football game when the crash occurred.

The teen was driving on Clemson Boulevard in a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck when a 1995 Buick attempted to merge into traffic from a paved median. The resulting collision caused both vehicles to spin, and the Chevrolet flipped over, trapping the driver inside. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene of the crash. His passenger was thrown from the vehicle in the collision and moved to a local hospital where he was being treated for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. The second driver was reportedly uninjured.

A representative with the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the teenager and his passenger were not wearing seat belts at the time the collision took place. It was not said if authorities were planning to file charges against the pizza delivery driver following the conclusion of the accident investigation.

Fatal car accidents can occur without warning. A deceased person’s family may be left to deal with any medical expenses, the cost of a funeral and, if they relied on the deceased person’s income, additional financial burden. If another driver is determined to be responsible for the crash, the family members could be eligible to file a wrongful death claim against the accused driver and, if the driver was on the clock, against the driver’s employer. In addition to seeking medical costs, the family may also potentially seek compensation for damages that they sustained, including loss of companionship.
