Car accident turns deadly for South Carolina resident
On Aug. 14, the South Carolina Highway patrol responded to a two-car collision in Greenville County that left one individual dead. The other individual involved also suffered injuries. According to authorities, the fatal accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. near the Garrison Road and Augusta Road intersection when a pickup truck rear-ended a sedan. A 41-year-old Iva man who was driving the sedan received fatal injuries in the crash.
After rescue personnel who responded to the scene cut the man, who had been wearing a seat belt, from his car, he was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment but died sometime later, authorities stated. An ambulance also took the driver of pickup truck, a 46-year-old Easley man, to the hospital.
Officials with the SCHP along with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the crash. It was not reported if speed or alcohol was suspected to have contributed to the accident, nor did police immediately mention if they intend on filing charges against the driver of the pickup truck.
Once the official investigation into a car accident is complete, a local attorney representing a car accident victim’s family may be able to analyze the police report for information to find the liable party. If it is determined that the crash was caused by the negligent actions of another driver, the family of the deceased may be able to hold him or her liable for damages by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court. If the driver was charged in the incident, an attorney representing the family might use those charges in substantiating the claim. In a successful suit, the decedent’s family may be awarded financial restitution for their accident-related losses.
